Tropical Musings from Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta March 2026 edition
I have just returned to the office from a one week visit to Costa Rica and I wanted to tell you what I found both here in Mexico and in Costa Rica.
We flew out of Guadalajara and the 3.5 hour trip to get there from Lo de Marcos was uneventful, unless you want to include my cars breaking down and needing a tow. There were signs of increased security on the highway and nothing else as a result the February’s incident in Mexico.
This is a strong sign that the violence is behind us and we can feel safe visiting Mexico or travelling its roadways.
Our flight was a red eye and landed at 1.30 am in Costa Rica. A quick negotiation with an Uber driver and we found ourselves out in front of Cando Living Apartments. We found this property on AIrbnb and left the next day because we didn’t think the photos matched the real unit we were given and the overnight front desk person was rude and surly. Our Room was far from an apartment, in fact it was about the size of a shoebox. The Manager tried upon early check out, the day after arrival, to rectify the situation but by then, it was too late. The damage was done and we had found another option for the rest of our stay.
We got up early the next day, in part because our room was next to the office and we could hear conversation very early in the morning. We spent the morning looking for accommodations that would suit our needs.
We went to visit at least 8 properties before finding a real gem! The property we stumbled upon was Hotel Majestad. You can see this property here — https://hotelmajestad.com/
Hotel Majestad is a historic boutique hotel located in the charming Barrio Amón district of San José, Costa Rica. Originally built during the golden age of coffee prosperity, the building showcases classic architectural details inspired by European and neoclassical styles, reflecting the cultural identity of early urban Costa Rica.
Hotel Majestad offers a rare opportunity to stay in a heritage building that tells the story of Costa Rica’s past while providing comfort for modern travelers.
I am happy to give this property a FIVE Star Review anytime! A wonderful place with charming staff that do what it takes to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Thank you Nicol, Fatima and Leslie for being such wonderful hosts.
Upon our Return to Guadalajara and car trip back to Lo de Marcos, again we saw no signs of any local insecurity.
The month of March has so many activities in town that you would need a Full time Assistant to put them all on your calendar, moreover you would have to possess Super Powers in order to attend them all.
One event that we urge you not to miss is the 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off in the Lo de Marcos Town Plaza on the 21st of March starting at 4.00 PM.
Now is your chance as a Chili Enthusiast to either enter as Guest Chef or attend the event as a taster!
