Call me stunned! While I was having my morning coffee, I realized it was June 1st. It seems like I was just wishing you all a Happy New Year.
The year is half way over and there are still vacations to be planned, day trips to be taken, new restaurants to explore and much more. This applies to all of us and not just those of us living in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico.
A day trip that I have planned for this season is a weekend in Yelapa.
Yelapa is a small fishing community located at the far Southern end of the Banderas Bay. The picturesque beach of Yelapa is home to stunning emerald waters and backed by the always stunning Sierra Made Mountains.
At first glance, there is not much to do in the Pueblo except relax on the beach.
Upon further inspection and a chat with the locals… in addition to the emerald water and pristine sandy beach, you can take a hike to the Waterfall, schedule a Horse Trail Ride or snatch up a piece of pie on the beach sold by The Pie Lady.
This remote Pueblo is best reached by boat, which you can pick up in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone or Boca de Tomatlan. The boat is referred to as a water taxi and the ride itself is fantastic!
Some days the beach is busy given the influx of day visitors but in the afternoons as the tours clear out, the beach becomes a whole new world and is filled with great food, drink and locals.
There is now a lot of choices in Yelapa if you want to spend the night or the weekend. From a Tom Sawyerish style Hotel that I personally love to a brand new condo, or even a private villa, the choices are endless.
For a Day trip from Puerto Vallarta, this is an awesome tour location.
For a weekend of Rest and Relaxation, I cannot pick a better destination.
Having fun in Yelapa is what it’s all about!
