Discover Lo de Marcos has been walking and hiking for over seven years.

Each Monday a group of locals walk for an hour and discover different parts of our wonderful pueblo and sometimes places just outside our border. They have visited beaches, lagoons, reservoirs, tunnels, and mountains. Along the way, they have seen iguanas, turtles, crocodiles, and birds of many sizes and colors. This is a social group and talking is encouraged.

On Saturdays, a hearty group of hikers travels 3 to 4 hours within and beyond the limits of Lo de Marcos. They have reached great altitudes and vast fields of farms and ranches. From corn to cows the abundance is awesome! Flora and fauna have been diverse. They work to learn the names in English, Spanish, and French. This is a serious group that knows how to have fun, and discover the world around them. From Los Ayala at the north part of Riviera Nayarit to Higuera Blanca in the south, the trails have drawn them weekly.
In 2020 and 2021 the size of the groups has dwindled, however… the strong of heart wear masks and practice Covid protocol and the hikes continue. The fresh air, and vitamin D from the sun is an aid to the immune system.  Both walking and hiking groups meet at 8:00 a.m., under Lo de Marcos plaza arch. Check out “What’s Up Lo de Marcos” on Facebook where each event is posted the day before.
After the pandemic is history they have plans to put together a three day hike which will include two separate stays at hostels in Lo de Marcos and Sayulita. This extended trip will include satisfying lunches and delicious dinners. Stay tuned and stay healthy.
Memo Moringa put together this group and has been active in the community for many years.
