With hurricane season officially underway and the heavy rains starting to roll in, your pool needs extra attention. In our tropical climate, one big rainstorm can throw off your pool chemistry and bring in leaves, dirt, and debris fast.

Here’s your essential Rainy Season Pool Checklist –

**Test & Balance Chemicals Weekly

**Heavy rainfall dilutes your chlorine and pH levels quickly. Your pool needs to be tested more frequently and adjusted as needed to prevent algae and cloudy water.

**Run your filter longer each day.

**Increase filter hours during and after rain.  You should try to aim for 12 to 24 hours a day during heavy downpours to handle the extra debris load and you should clean the skimmers and baskets on a daily basis.

**Leaves and organic matter get washed into the pool fast so you should empty the skimmer baskets regularly to keep circulation strong.

**You should check the pumps, filters, and heaters for water intrusion. Rain + salt air is tough on pool systems.

**A good shock treatment after major storms helps burn off contaminants brought in by the rain. Monitor Water Level

Rain can overfill your pool which is not a good thing.

I recommend, lowering the water level if it gets too high to avoid damaging the tile line or equipment.

A well maintained pool is one of the top features that helps your Riviera Nayarit property rent well or sell faster so, don’t let the green season turn it into a headache!
