“There’s no place like home” is an adage that we hear very commonly. I feel, in my case, this saying proves 100% true; there is no place like my hometown of Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico.
I was lucky enough to have been born in San Francisco, Nayarit lovingly called San Pancho by the people of the area, one of the many beautiful towns that call the Bahia de Banderas their home here in the lavish Riviera Nayarit. But, in my humble opinion, even San Pancho doesn’t come close to the magic of Lo de Marcos.
Lo de Marcos is special in more than one way, for only here do you still get nature in it’s beautiful original state, only here do you still have friendly people who wake-up at the crack of dawn to do their morning chores but never fail to say “buenos días,” only here can you find all the necessities of daily life without being engulfed by the hustle and bustle of a major metropolis, and most importantly, this is one of the few places in the world where you can still find peace.
Whether it’s a walk up and down the picturesque streets, a stroll over the amazing town square, a petite march adjacent to the river or a relaxing sit-down on the virgin beach, Lo de Marcos is the place for those that need relaxation.
Oh, and did I mention we have amazing food! Yes, every single restaurant in town has its unique touch, whether you want to have a nice dining experience in one of the businesses around the town square or one of the restaurants on the beach, or simply have a snack from the many street vendors in town, disappointed is something that you will never be with the food in Lo de Marcos. Fresh beef or pork, fresh chicken, super fresh fish, and fresh fruits and vegetables are part of everyday life in this small coastal town…did I mention the word fresh!
Our beaches are ideal for walking, running, or even sleeping! Our ocean waters are clean with a blue-green hue that is a sight to behold, ideal for swimming or aquatic sports. Our hills are full of flora and fauna that will become protagonists in your hiking adventures or, if you’re up for it, a nice horse-back ride. In every corner of Lo de Marcos you get the best of nature. Go to the estuary and watch the birds play, look attentively at the ocean and be surprised when you see a dolphin or whale closer than you expected, or visit the one-of-a-kind tide pools and surround yourself with tiny marine life that remind you that great things can come in small sizes.
I will never get tired of my wonderful little town. I love its food, its plants, its animals, its beaches, and its people. The place that many people call their dream vacation, I call my home, and it is WE, the people of Lo de Marcos, that want to invite all of you to our beautiful home. I guarantee you will want to come back for another visit.
So if you want to experience the hidden gem of the Riviera Nayarit, come to the Bahia of Banderas and visit Lo de Marcos. We are sure you will leave our little town saying, “There is no place like Lo de Marcos.”
