The little slice of heaven that we refer to as Lo de Marcos was founded in 1918 and since then the town has seen many changes, but nothing extreme relative to the magnitude experienced by our neighboring towns of Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita and San Pancho.

At the present time, our town is growing and new stores and businesses are starting to appear.  This is a mixed blessing for all of us. Let’s try to support them as they will support us!

Yes, it is nice to have a second dentist in town, a wine bar, even a few new restaurants, stores and properties to stay in while enjoying your vacation. However, we at Galvan Real Estate, want to remind you that this town is home to over 2500 year-round inhabitants who enjoy the slower pace and the connection with the community, our cultural festivals and events, and are content driving into Puerto Vallarta to visit Mega or Sam’s Club when we need to, or to do our shopping in the nearby town of La Peñita.

However, my friends, the reality is that our piece of heaven has been discovered, and growth is imminent.  It is important for the Founding Fathers, Key Businesses and Residents to work together not to allow our town to be lost, but instead to maintain its quaint charm while at the same time working to bring businesses and projects to our town that will support and enhance our town but that will not be a drain on our resources or result in a controversial impact to our community.

It is a possibility that our stance might sound as being against development which is in direct contradiction to our position as the leading real estate company of the area. But, we have to clarify that, while we are not against development in Lo de Marcos, we want to see it structured in a way to benefit the town in the long run with long range planning conducted to ensure that our sewers, systems, roads and facilities can support additional growth and that the underlying natural beauty that characterizes Lo de Marcos never disappears.

Let the Big Development pass us by to the North where there is still unhinged beauty that has not yet been developed.

The Pueblo of Lo de Marcos is our home and Galvan Real Estate, since its inception, has played an intricate part in bringing life and sustainability to the Pueblo.  From the weekly Tianguis, to the Giving Tree Program, as well as our support of the local events and community, our love for the Pueblo is evident all around the town.  We are here for the long run and intend to do whatever it takes to preserve the towns charm and beauty.

We don’t profess to have all of the answers, but are conscious of the fact that Lo de Marcos is made unique by the strength, charm, and traditions of its people. A gem is never changed, it is simply polished. Let’s not aim to change Lo de Marcos… let us instead polish the greatness that already exists.

I’ve long believed in a philosophy of responsible growth. In the river of life you can be in the water swept away in the current or in the boat paddling like crazy to help steer. Journey on.

Thank you for sharing your views on this. I am considering moving to Lo De Marcos and one concern I have is exactly what you mention. I hope the essence of this community does not become spoiled with over development.

I visited L.D.M. for less then 8 hours two years ago with my wife. I told her in less then one hour of being in your Pueblo that I wanted us to live the rest of our days in L.D.M. After visiting the Tianguis and meeting some very friendly locals and some great expats I fell in love with the spirit of Lo De Marcos! The next year my wife visited again and had one request from me please find us a home in the town I fell in love with the previous year. As they say the rest is history we now have our little piece of paradise and look forward to living and participating in the future of our new home.
