Is it Safe for US Citizens to travel to Mexico?

Is Mexico safe is the first question than many US residents ask themselves when they begin to plan a vacation to Mexico.

Mexico is generally safe for American tourists if you take the proper precautions, research the city you are traveling to, and use some common sense.  There is no need to flash your money or your bling and by all means take a taxi home after a night in the clubs and bars.

Mexico is one of the top destinations for travelers from the U.S.

The U.S. State Department recently updated, yet again Mexico’s travel warning for U.S. Residents traveling to Mexico due to crimes in several Mexican states that are popular with American tourists.

These travel warnings are usually specific to certain areas or Cities in Mexico and do not relate the country as a whole however, US news and Media would have you believe otherwise sadly!

“Violent crime, such as homicide, kidnapping, and even robbery—is widespread and common in Mexico,” warns the State Department.

Just last year in 2022 there were 66 million tourists who visited Mexico and there were 115 reported deaths of US Citizens.  This is a very small percentage of the visitor base and its probably safer than many areas in the United States.

Mexico, is also seeing a tremendous increase in Full Time Residents that are Citizens of the United States.   For whatever the reason be it the newly accepted ability to work remotely or the current Political climate in the US, the migration is astounding.

Whether you are coming for a well-deserved Vacation, early retirement or a remote work from home opportunity, Mexico is safe and the place to be.
